Economic Empowerment In A Box

As the regular readers of this blog already know, I am always on the look-out for good news stories about economic empowerment (see my post on the power of peanut-butter)so I was excited when I came across this wonderful company called South Africa In A Box.

They create great South African gifts consisting of a box (made of wire, tin or card) containing products that are uniquely South African. What I love most about these guys is that they partner with economic empowerment initiatives across the country who provide some of the contents for the boxes.

Imagine this - there are previously disadvantaged communities out there being fed through the proceeds of their effort to fill boxes with creative craft that is being sent around the country and overseas promoting our country which may well lead to further economic investment and future growth! Now that's what I call a business with its feet strongly rooted in the reality of the present but also with a keen eye on the future. Of course they are making these boxes for profit, they are a business after all, but the repercussions of their efforts will be felt for a long time in those communities which benefit from this initiative.

Well done to the team at South Africa In A Box - you make us proud to be South African!
